SWINE FLU????

This is Mr. Van's Swine Flu update, which will hopefully answer two questions; first, what are the symptoms, and second, what should I do if I or my child start showing symptoms. If you or a member of your family has a fever or high temperature (over 38 degrees Celsius/100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) and two or more of the following symptoms, you may have swine flu: unusual tiredness, headache, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath, or cough, loss of appetite, aching muscles, diarrhea or vomiting.

In general, doctors are advising that anyone who has the swine flu treat it like any other flu case. Treat it at home with lots of rest, lots of liquids, and keep an eye on their temperature. Stay home at least 24 hours after the symptoms, including the fever are gone before returning to work or school. There are signs to watch for both with the swine flu or any other form of the flu that should signal a call to your doctor.

More serious symptoms that would indicate that a child with swine flu would need urgent medical attention includes:

*Fast Breathing/trouble breathing
*Bluish/gray color skin
*Not drinking enough fluids
*Severe/persistent vomiting
*Not waking up or not interacting
*Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
*Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

Please remember that in any case, if you have a concern call your pediatrician for advice. After all, my degree is in education, not medicine.

Mr. Van

Islands Restaurant Fundraiser

Here's a great idea: Enjoy a yummy burger and fries, wash it all down w/ a cold one, and raise money for our kids at Foothill at the same time! Sound like a deal? Then grab your friends and family and head on out to Islands Restaurant at Del Monte Shopping Center on Wednesday, April 22 from 5pm to 9pm.. Just present your flier, and Islands will donate 20 % of your total bill to the Foothill PTA. The more you eat, the more we raise!! And anyone can participate- Grandparents, neighbors, bosses, co-workers,best friends - you name it. Make sure you have the flier with you in order for us to get the credit we deserve. And feel free to make copies of the flier and pass them out (just don't do it at Del Monte on the night of the Fundraiser - Islands frowns on that). We hope to see you there! Aloha!

Foothill parents and students:

Just a reminder that the last day to submit all remaining Box Tops for our last mailing is arriving soon! Please turn in your Box Tops by February 23rd in order for them to be counted. As a result, Foothill will receive our last check of the school year in April. I know we can meet our new goal of $700! Only a Few Days Left to Purchase Gala Tickets!

Happy New Year to all of our Foothill Families! We are kicking off 2009 by
gearing up for our Biggest Fundraiser of the Year - the Black and
White Gala. Join us for an 'Evening in Paris' on Friday, January
30. For just $45/per person, you get a great dinner, dancing, and
the chance to bid on some great silent and open auction items.
We've had a terrific response to sales of our 50/50 Raffle
tickets - so far we are up to $3000, so one lucky winner will
take home at least $1500! Gala tickets can be purchased in the
main Foothill office - get yours today! Here's why this
fundraiser is so important: Due to massive budget cuts at both
the state and local level, the PTA is being asked to fund
salaries for the Art and PE teachers, along w/ the Librarian. The
PTA also funds class field trips and many other programs that
directly benefit your children! But we can't do it without your
help. Even if you cannot make the Gala, you can support us by
buying raffle tickets or just making a donation to the PTA.

Thanks in advance for your support - Let's all do our part to
continue to keep Foothill the Great School that it is for our
kiddos!

School Garden Kickoff Day

We're finally Digging In! Join us Saturday, February 21 from 10-1 at the Foothill Garden to help us get it growing! We need volunteers to help build planter beds, decorate garden art, prep and weed garden beds, and plant seeds and flowers. We are looking to make this a family event, and are going to get food and drinks donated. If you'd like to help us out, please sign up in the Foothill Office. If you are interested in donating material or funds to the garden, please contact our Foothill Garden Chair, Gen Millington at 915-8767 or at g_millington@comcast.net
